Dog walking in Campo de Ourique
Campo de Ourique probably has more dogs per square metre than anywhere else in Lisbon, and it shows: by late afternoon the Jardim da Parada is half the neighbourhood knowing each other by their dog’s name rather than their own.
Where we walk here
Jardim da Parada
The heart of the neighbourhood. Enclosed, shaded and full of dogs who all know each other by late afternoon.
Jardim Teófilo Braga
Smaller and considerably quieter. Good for dogs that would rather not meet a crowd.
Cemitério dos Prazeres (envolvente)
The wide streets around it are some of the calmest nearby for a long, unhurried walk.
The ground
It is flat — rare in Lisbon — and laid out on a grid, which makes walks predictable and easy to shorten or extend. The streets are narrow and cars park up on the pavement, so with dogs that pull or react to scooters we stick to the wider avenues.
